Alcohol Treatment Centers
Alcohol treatment centers are typically inpatient residences that combine medication, therapy and other treatment methods. The inpatient treatment center typically has programs that last from one month to 6 months or more. The most common placement is the one-month treatment program. This intensive program helps the alcoholic stop drinking while introducing them to intense personal and group therapy to understand their reasons for the alcohol dependency.
Treatment centers can be long-term facilities as well. This treatment may be best suited for those with intense or long-standing alcohol abuse problems or those who have failed at treatment in the past.
Treatment centers have strict rules of operation. They usually do not allow outside contact with others for the first 2 to 3 weeks of the stay. This is to ensure that the person acclimates to the therapy and that others do not influence them. Centers keep schedules for their patients that allow them time for group or individual therapy, specific times to eat, sleep and exercise.
Therapy is a large portion of the time spent at a treatment facility. Therapy is intensive at the treatment center and allows the person to get used to having therapy as part of their daily routine. Once they leave the facility they often join a local therapy group to continue the work they started.
Treatment centers are often located in warm or sunny locations. People must travel to the facility. These places are usually located away from the main city. This helps those who attend stay focused on their treatment. Warm locations also allow for outdoor exercise, which helps the body detoxify itself from the effects of alcohol. Alcohol can stay within the body’s cells for several or more days. Exercise helps to remove the remnants from the body and help it get back to normal.
Some treatment centers are located in conjunction with hospitals. These are often outpatient care centers that concentrate on providing ongoing alcohol dependency treatment on a daily basis. They often have support groups for all types of individuals as well as their families. This family support helps them understand what the alcoholic will be going through and gives them the strength they need to help the person go through the treatment.
Whatever treatment center you choose you can be certain that you have taken a step in the right direction. This is the first step towards becoming alcohol free and taking your life back.
